Dear Prairie Home Families,
These are surely interesting times we are living! I hope everyone is staying home and being safe. I also hope your learning is being productive and fun. Last Thursday Missouri’s governor announced that all school buildings will remain closed, but distance learning will continue until the end of the school year. This means that our teachers will continue to provide educational opportunities for our students. It also means that our students are responsible and accountable for the school work our teachers are providing. Most importantly WE will continue to be here for you and help in any way we can to make the best of a challenging situation.
Elementary families, we have asked our teachers to focus on reading and math skills. Along with what teachers are providing we asked that you read to and have your child read everyday. Any reading will help. When selecting a book, a general rule of thumb, if you open the book and the student has a hard time with 4-5 words on a single page, it may be too challenging for independent reading, but a good book to read with your child. You can also create sight word flash cards for younger kids. Sight words can be found on websites such as sightwords.com. You may also practice math facts, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Your teacher has shared a variety of other fun and helpful websites including iReady.com to practice both reading and math.
Junior High & High School families, many, if not all, of your teachers are using Google Classrooms to provide assignments and Zoom meetings to give instruction and lead discussions. Currently the plan is to continue assignments through Friday, May 1st. After May 1st there will be no new instruction or assignments. The following week (May 4th-8th) will be your final work week to complete any and all of your unfinished assignments. We will record letter grades for all courses with the following exceptions: PE, Music, Band, Choir, and Art. These will be pass/fail for quarter and the semester. There will be no finals this semester.
Any family that is having trouble with accessing the internet may contact the school to have a chrome book issued to them. With that you would be able to come to the school parking lot to access our WiFi service, or go to any location that may have guest WiFi services.
We want all of you to know that we care about each of you. We will do everything that we can to help you through and get the most out of this educational experience.
Sincerely,
Mark Shore
